Windows Media Player issue.?

Every video I play with windows media player only has sound, no video. I've watched all these videos previously on windows media player and it all went fine. It did say no codec acquired right before playing the audio of the video but now it says codec acquired so what I want to know is; Are there any free video players that can play the same videos as WMP and how can I fix this issue?
