If one deposits cash fortnightly to a bank account which already receives a weekly wage, does the ATO frown?

From a tax perspective you should be fine as you are not 'earning an income' from the money. You do need to declare any interest earned as always to the ATO in your tax return but this doesn't sound like it will generate you any interest
